With the release of the first official trailer of The Great Gatsby less than 24 hours ago, the anticipation for the remake of F. Scott Fitzgerald's masterpiece is growing bigger! The leading characters of Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan are played by Leonardo DiCaprio and Carrey Mulligan. I am expecting that since the film is directed by Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge, Romeo + Julliet) it will definitely deliver an extraordinary music score!

The book was first published in 1925. (...) The Great Gatsby takes place (...) in 1922, as America has fully recovered from the First World War, and is enjoying prosperity during the "roaring" 1920s. The economy soared and emotions ran high. Yet, at the same time, Prohibition, the ban on the sale and manufacture of alcohol as mandated by the Eighteenth Amendment, was gaining traction. (...) Today the book is widely regarded as the epitome of the Great American Novel, and a literary classic. [source: Wikipedia]

The Great Gatsby has been filmed seven times!! The most famous until today is the one released in 1974, starring Robert Redford and Mia Farrow, with a script of Francis Ford Coppola. The film won 2 Oscars, for Costumes and Music. FYI: the costume designer was the famous Greek-American stage and costume designer, Theoni Athanasiou Aldredge.

Ever since the seventh remake was announced, it immediately generated a 1920s revival madness, especially in the fashion and film industry. See my relevant post here.

The release date is 25th December 2012. Until then, watch the trailer

Thank you so much for reading!!
