Just in case you didn't know, British actress Carey Mulligan will be playing Daisy (Fay) Buchanan in Baz Luhrman's remake of F.S. Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby, which is to open the this year's Cannes Film Festival!

This will be the fourth adaptation of Fitzgerald's 1925 novel to hit the big screen starring Leonardo DiCaprio in the title role of Jay Gatsby, Spider-Man's Tobey Maguire as his wide-eyed confidant Nick Carraway alongside Britain's Carey Mulligan as manipulative socialite Daisy Buchanan. [...] Prior to Luhrmann's film the most famous adaptation was Jack Clayton's Academy award-winning 1974 version, which was scripted by Francis Ford Coppola and starred Robert Redford, Mia Farrow and Sam Waterston. The Great Gatsby was previously filmed in the silent era in 1926 by Herbert Brenon, a version viewed as closest to the original text. A 1949 version by Elliott Nugent, featuring Alan Ladd, Betty Field, and Shelley Winters, remains largely unseen. (source: the guardian)

The entire photoshoot was inspired by Carey's roaring-twenties role with pieces from Oscar de la Renta, Miu Miu, Nina Ricci, Christian Dior, Chanel, and Alexander McQueen, captured by the one and only Mario Testino.

Mulligan came at the end of a long line of actresses auditioning for the part.
On waiting to find out if she had got the role: “I was trying to be cool, but oh, it was horrible. It was terrifying, the suspense. I was winding down on shooting ‘Drive’, so I wasn’t working that much, just waiting around for the phone to ring and for me to be disappointed.”

Mulligan found the roots of her character in Fitzgerald’s first love, Ginevra King, and his wife, Zelda. As Daisy, she portrays a woman whose voice, Fitzgerald famously wrote, “is full of money.”
On making the Great Gatsby: “It was crazy and exhausting and quite overwhelming… the biggest, craziest production I’ve ever been involved in.”

Miu Miu dress, embroidered with Swarovski Elements, and heels.

On her good fortune in Hollywood: “It’s unsettling that you get exactly what you wanted. Not like some version of it, not a slightly lesser version of it, but exactly. You’re like: This is weird. It is weird.”
